Separate the local till from connected services
Local billing and internet services have different dependencies. The desktop approach is designed for local selling, while payment providers, off-site access and cloud services may still need a working connection. A kitchen printer on your local network also depends on that network and its power supply.
Describe what “offline” means for your business. An unavailable broadband line, a router failure and a computer without power are three different situations. Ask to demonstrate the work you need to continue under the specific interruption you are planning for.
Try the interruption before a busy day
Use a small test catalogue and an agreed disposable order. Demonstrate normal operation first, then repeat the approved local workflow without external internet. Reopen the saved sale and inspect the result after connectivity returns. For restaurants, include the kitchen handoff if it is part of your planned setup.
Discuss the payment-provider procedure separately. Do not tell a cashier to mark an unconfirmed digital payment as received simply because the POS can save a bill. Staff need a clear, approved response when a payment cannot be verified.
A backup needs another safe location
Posnic documents local backups and a backup manager. A copy on the same computer does not protect against losing that computer or its disk. Agree who copies backups to a separate approved location and how they check that the copy is current.
- Name the person responsible for backups.
- Choose a schedule that matches when the till runs.
- Keep a protected copy away from the original disk.
- Record the last successful backup.
- Prove a restore in a separate test environment.
Scheduled backups, off-site services and recovery assistance should be confirmed for your installation and quote.
Ask for a practical recovery handover
Before starting live billing, ask where the data is stored, how to find a backup and whom to contact when the till will not start. Write down what your team should do while recovery is underway. Keep login access with the authorised owner rather than only with a temporary installer.
Use the migration guide to include backup and rollback in your opening plan. Our POS overview explains how software, equipment and support fit together.
